Spring Break Day 7 & 8

Peoria's ballpark, home to the Mariners and the Padres.

Got to see Alex Gordon play.

ROYALS WIN!!!!!!!!!  (barely)

Quite possibly one of the coolest places I have ever gone, the Musical Instrument Museum.  I ended up taking around 90 pictures total, most of which I took specifically to show the 2nd and 3rd graders.

Had to include this picture though.  This is an instrument from Malta.  Does it look somewhat familiar???  It is made out of a calf skin.
Day 8 was really pretty uneventful.  We are heading back towards Kansas.  We went north to Flagstaff and then took Interstate 40 to Albuquerque where we took that infamous left turn.  We are staying in Santa Fe and will drive the rest of the way back tomorrow.

Ka'aihue at bat.  Notice who is in the dugout watching....

Had a good lead until Cleveland starts putting in the scrubs then they blow it.  Lovely...........

Spring Break Day 5

Went to watch practice in the morning.  Got to see some of the top prospects do some fielding and batting practice.

Then we headed to Camelback Ranch home of the Dodgers and White Sox.

Their practice facility is unique in that the Dodgers and White Sox sides are connected so you can go from one side to the other.

Tommy Lasorda was there signing autographs.

Former Dodger Don Newcombe threw out the first pitch.

After the Dodgers-Cubs game we headed back to Surprise for the Royals game.

Unfortunately, some things never change.  At least in the end, they ended up scoring more runs than errors.  Hopefully tomorrow against the Indians will be a little better.

Spring Break Day 4

Good morning Flagstaff!  It was cold and snowy when we left and it stayed that way until it turned into rain.  Overall, Flagstaff got 7 inches of snow.  Once we got to Surprise it rained, and rained, and rained.  The Royals game was cancelled.

That evening we had tickets for the Dodgers at the Diamondbacks at the new Salt River Fields.  It still really hadn't stopped raining and the game got started a little late.

Here is a panoramic view of the ballpark.  We made 2 laps and talked to a guy whose wife is a professor at K-State.  Small world!!

Luckily I got to see one of my favorite former Royals!

Spring Break Day 3

This was the coolest thing about Tuba City.......really.

Grand Canyon

The weather at the Grand Canyon.  Notice the forecast for tomorrow.

Here is the Kaibab Trail.  We hiked down about a mile and a half.  Going down wasn't bad, coming up was, well, use your imagination.

Taking a rest.......

Spring Break Day 1

I drove from Garden City to Alamosa.  Thankfully my co-pilot continued the tradition of getting a picture at the state line.

Mountains in the distance.

The Spanish Peaks

A REALLY BIG HILL, or I guess it could be a mountain.
